Pushing Daisies (ABC) 2007/10/05 04:47
This thread discusses the Content article: Pushing Daisies (ABC)

I personally didn't care much for the narrator. While it added to the whole fairy tale element of the show, the psuedo-Dr. Suess became overwhelming at times. Chi McBride has once again found his sweet spot. This is the best performance I've seen from him since Boston Public. I am interested in seeing where the show goes, and I'm REALLY hoping it survives the "classy, critically-acclaimed, well-written show on ABC" curse.

I don't watch much TV at all, but I thought I'd make time to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad I did! I'm adding this one to my very short (now up to 4!) must see TV list.

the only reservation i had about watching this show is that i will undoubtedly love it, but it will go the way of tru calling, which had a very similar idea and yet, from your description, still different story line. i have a habit of getting strangly attached to these sort of shows (another would be 'dead like me'), b/c its a uncommon fiction i like to entertain as an almost parallel universe kind of idea. something so far away from being possible, and yet somehow it has me completely fascinated and wondering what the next twist will be.

I got a sense of that same fear while watching the pilot, too---will this last? Do I jump in and invest myself, only to have the rug pulled out from under me?

Say, did anyone else have a deja vu on the look/feel of this with those old Walgreen's ads ("a place called 'Perfect'")? Same sort of narration, lollipop color scheme ... Not a bad thing, mind you! Just kind of curious.

Anyway, I hope this show isn't ill-fated by its premise and its potential doom as an ABC show. It was strangely affecting and marvelously quirky at the same time. Quirk can be done wrong, but this show has it in the right balance, thus far, and the cast (stars and smaller parts alike) is terrific.

I did and couldn't place it. Not sure if it was the Walgreen's ads, though. But, I did have the "this reminds me of something, but I just can't think of what it is!" frustration.

It reminded me somewhat of "Little Shop of Horrors". Of course, the presence of Ellen Greene in both playing similar roles could have had something to do with that.
