Marvel/Dabel Bros split 2007/08/15 03:04
This thread discusses the Content article: Marvel/Dabel Bros split

What is the deal with these guys? Are their stories that good that we can ignore the whole, "Can't Play Well With Others" stigma? Count me out.

I think you might be reading too much into it. The way I took it was that the contract with DB and Marvel either ran out, or they mutually decided it was time for it to run out anyway, and they both decided to part ways amicably.

I deduce this based on how both parties have made out in the end: Marvel's got a staple of well-known novelists and some of their best stories to add to its roster, which ups their respectability in the publishing world, not to mention the sales numbers; and Dabel Bros have major brand name recognition that they didn't have before their deal with Marvel, so that anything they launch from here on out will come with a seal of quality attached in comic buyers' minds.

It seems like a win/win, and sounds to me very much like what both parties probably intended to happen when the deal was first struck. I don't think we should assume that one party or the other couldn't get along. It seems more likely to me that they both got what they wanted and are ready to move on.
