Seasons GreetingsExcellent point, Stacy. I, too, am getting really weary of the "other" form of political correctness: fellow Christians who have let their pendulum swing too far in the other direction and apply their own snooty PC (Pharisaically Correct) standards to everyone else. As you point out, there are several holidays bunched up at the end of the year, including Thanksgiving and -- dare I say it? -- Hannukah. (Others, too.) As a Christian, I want poeple to experience the joy I feel this time of year at realizing that the God of the universe came to us in human form so that He could pay a price for my awful sins that I never could, all to His glory. Jesus doesn't spend much time correcting anyone other than the proud throughout the Gospels; what makes any of us think we have that responsibility, or the right?
We best exemplify "the reason for the season" by acting like we believe what Jesus said, not by smacking people down when they don't utter the greeting we want to hear. As a friend of mine said once, "There may not be an 'I' in team, but there is one in 'pharisee.'" I think we all need to take a closer look, every day, at the condition of our hearts and how we behave and worry less about the culture war.
