I just need to vent something and this seems as good a forum as any.

My wife is a fairly big reality television fan. And I have to admit that I have a sore spot for it as well. There's something compelling about unscripted drama, even if it's as scripted as a CSI: Kalamazoo show. We can easily become addicted to American Idol, Dancing With The Stars and so forth.

So my issue? I need you to kill the drama and get it over with. During a recent episode of Dancing With The Stars, it occurred to me that I was totally wasting an hour waiting to hear a result that I could simply look up online immediately after. In the meantime, I'm rolling my eyes through endless Queen Latifah performances, recaps I'd already seen twice, silly Jimmy Kimmel skits and any other filler they could remotely think of. Next week will feature "get to know the cameraman" segments, I'm sure.

In any case, I wonder if any network or even a single show will ever have the guts to say, "We're only going to take five minutes to tell you the news one way or the other. We respect you enough to do that. And if you want to see Dolly Parton perform, then just stay tuned." That might seem like suicide where all the viewers would become leavers, but I don't know. I would pledge to watch the rest of that show just because I would feel respected enough that I would want to pay them back for their gift of time. In a way, I would lose the same amount of time but I would feel a sense of dignity while I'm waiting for Barbara Mandrell to finish a solo.

Anyway, I have to go. Herbie Hancock is almost finished and they're about to announce the winner.
