When I was a kid, there was nobody more cool than Evel Knievel.

I would glue myself to the TV whenever Wild World of Sports had a live telecast of one of his daring motorcycle jumps.

That was back in the days before all these high-tech, reinforced shock absorber motorcycles they use nowadays. He used a plain old MAN'S motorcycle and would seemingly take any dare thrown at him. Whether a bunch of buses lined up side by side, or an unbelievable set of semi trucks, he always sailed through the air, hoping to make it safely down the ramp on the other side.

Unfortunately, that didn't always happen as planned.

I can't remember how many times I watched as Evel wiped out and broke bones on national TV. Still, he was cool.

If you get onto Youtube.com, you can relive a lot of those exciting moments. They have posted several of his best jumps and worst crashes and it is like being a kid again as I watch those old memories. But, make sure to watch one particular video.

The most important video of them all is a video from earlier this year as Evel Knievel tells of his recent conversion to Christianity. He tells about the years of drinking and womanizing and his legendary ego that almost ruined his and his loved ones' lives. His is a clear presentation of the testimony of a man who has truly found the peace that had always eluded him.

A childhood hero has come home!
